Our worldly possessions, all boxed up and ready to go

As my family and I finish packing up our belongings in preparation for our return to Australia, I’m prompted to reflect, as humans do, on my time in the US. It’s been a fantastically rewarding 5 years in the Bay Area working at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. It was numerically successful too, we’ve created projects that have reached millions of people online, in person, in print, on their phones, in their ears and even via SMS. We received awards and a lot of press coverage too, but much more than numbers, we got to make experiences that engaged, challenged and delighted people. The best of these projects were those developed as collaborations between people who think differently about the world.

There’s a common propensity to attribute a team’s success to an individual, especially in hierarchical organizations, and even more so when that individual is a white man. SFMOMA, however, is very much a consensus driven organization with many exceptionally talented teams working with a range of creators, partners and vendors. All successes should be shared.

Thanks!

First and foremost my thanks is to Susan Winesmith, the smartest and kindest person I know. Thanks for coming on this crazy journey with me and for putting up with my endless chatter about digital, culture, and the future.

A massive, un-repayable thanks to my boss Chad Coerver and my immediate team; current, previous, interns and fellows. Amber Diehl, Ana Fox-Hodess, Bridget Cranberry, Emily Robbins, Flora Grant, Grace Ambrose, Jay Mollica, Julia Askenase, Khanh Nyguen, Matthew Hrudka, Maxwell Croy, Nicole Sorci, Rossana Cantù, Ryan Baker, Sarah Bailey Hogarty, Talia Lieberman, Vincent Sulit, and Zac Ruben-Rattet.

My immense gratitude to you all, and I hope I get the chance to work with you again!
